Recognition OverviewAFC sponsors numerous awards and recognitions throughout the year. These honors represent one of the most valuable benefits of membership since it is only through an organization like AFC that deserving community college professionals in Florida are rewarded for their excellence. Some are individual awards, many are professional achievement recognitions and others recognize association groups and members for their accomplishments. The criteria for each award are listed below. 2012 AFC Awards Committee NominationsCriteria and forms can be found in the AFC Leadership Manual. If you do not have a printed copy of the manual, you can find it on the AFC Website in the My Member Toolbox. Outstanding Chapter of the Year AwardReporting Period is June 1, 2011- May 31, 2012. All nominations must be received by July 31, 2012. The Chapter of the Year Award’s process has been restructured to include more than just one “Outstanding Chapter” Award. A range of points will be established by the Awards Committee for the awarding of “Platinum Chapter”, “Gold Chapter” and “Silver Chapter” distinctions. Each chapter submitting a nomination will be recognized for their efforts at the AFC Annual Convention. The Awards Committee will also determine an Outstanding Chapter of the Year from all the nominations. Commission End of the Year ReportReporting Period is October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012. All nominations must be received October 17, 2012. The Commission End of the Year Report will now be used in the judging process for the Outstanding Commission of the Year. In the hopes of soliciting more participation in the awards program, the report has been streamlined. The purpose of the report is still to offer Commission chairs a measurable tool to use in planning and implementing a successful year in compliance with the Commission Vitality Report found in the AFC Bylaws, Article VIII, Section 2. Region End of the Year ReportReporting Period is October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012. All nominations must be received by October 17, 2012. The Region End of the Year Report will now be used in the judging process for the Outstanding Region of the Year. In the hopes of soliciting more participation in the awards program, the report has been streamlined. The purpose of the report is still to offer Region Directors a measurable tool to use in planning and implementing a successful year. AFC Retirees Commission Chapter Exemplary Practice AwardReporting Period is October 1, 2011- September 30, 2012. All nominations must be received by October 15, 2012. To recognize the AFC Chapter that demonstrates practices to support its AFC members who are fully retired from employement. Outstanding Board Member of the Year AwardTo recognize outstanding service and commitment to the AFC by a current member of the AFC Board of Directors. The current President bestows this award. Honorary Life Membership AwardAll nominations must be received by September 14, 2012 The Honorary Life Membership Award is the highest honor that the Association of Florida Colleges can bestow on an individual. It is an award of appreciation for significant, long-term contribution to AFC and/or the state college system. It is the crowning achievement that recognizes long-term dedication. Distinguished Service Member AwardAll nominations must be received by September 14, 2012 Distinguished Service Member Award is awarded to members of the Association of Florida Colleges for an exceptional achievement at the chapter, region, commission and/or state level. This award may be awarded more than once to any member for outstanding service or achievement.
