WELCOME - A Message from the 2023 Chair

Dr. Germany Dixon

As the new Chair of the Campus Safety Commission for the AFC, I am excited about this opportunity to serve our membership in 2023 and I welcome you to our commission.

This past year offered an opportunity to reignite the commission and entered a new threshold beyond the challenging times of COVID.  As we begin to transition forward, it is important, to begin with, a renewed energy to proceed with Great Expectations. I am extremely optimistic about the potential opportunities to provide progressive knowledge and resources to support the diverse safety and security needs of each of the 28 community and state colleges in Florida. We are currently at a pivotal point within our commission which provides us the ability to rise to the next level in providing consistent trainings, webinars, and looking at the significance of providing a comprehensive Campus Safety Symposium. This commission will be focused on working with our campus safety leaders with the intent of sharing their experiences of lessons learned, best practices, and ensuring that we work collectively as a unified team.

Also, it is important to provide an atmosphere dedicated to providing excellent opportunities for professional development, while exploring the safety challenges that each of you have navigated through these past years.  This will offer us as a commission the ability to engage, learn and share valuable aspects of change among our partnering institutions.  We will provide access to professional networking sessions with the ultimate benefit of connecting with fellow peers dedicated to the purpose of growth and development. I would also like to solicit your assistance and support in promoting the membership of the AFC, and participation in our great Campus Safety Commission.

Please mark your calendars and prepare to attend this year’s, Campus Safety Symposium. It will be held July 20 – 21, 2023, at Tallahassee Community College’s, Florida Public Safety Institute.

In closing,

“Excellence is never an accident.  It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives – choice, not chance, determines your destiny.”

-Aristotle

Let’s move forward with GREAT EXPECTATIONS in 2023!

All the best,
Dr. Germany J. Dixon
