The mission of the Student Development Commission is to provide professional development and leadership opportunities for student affairs practitioners and others throughout the state who actively encourage students to realize their fullest potential and reach their educational, life and career goals.


WHAT WE DO

Student Development - Through our network we:

AFC SDC Board May 2015

  • Promote student service programs throughout the regions and statewide
  • Share ideas and enhance professional development by offering conferences and workshops
  • Discuss common problems and concerns
  • Gather data and conduct surveys relative to various student service functions
  • Represent the interests of our colleagues at various state meetings
  • Coordinate activities with other commissions
  • Acknowledge outstanding student service practices through Exemplary Practice Awards competition
  • Recognize practitioners who are considered exceptionally effective and active in the local AFC chapter as well as the Student Development Commission through special service awards
  • Provide a means for exchange of ideas and an update about regional activities through the publication of our newsletter, The Network.

2019 Spring Conference - Call for Proposals

The AFC Student Development Commission (SDC) invites the submission of engaging and content rich program proposals or panel discussions for our 2019 conference to be held May 14-16, 2018 at the College of Central Florida in Ocala, FL. The conference planning committee is seeking submissions from a diverse range of areas. Each session will last 45 minutes (including Q & A) and should focus on sharing best practices and innovative methodologies with other Student Affairs/Services practitioners, faculty and staff from around the state. Your abstract should not exceed 60 words and be suitable for publication in the program book. Presenting at the Student Development Conference provides an opportunity to build your professional network and learn, reflect and engage with colleagues.

All presenters must be registered/paid participants in the conference.
All conference presentation will take place on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

To recognize and honor a Florida College System student affairs practitioner who has consistently demonstrated the highest levels of humanitarianism throughout his or her career.

DR. CHARLES R. DASSANCE STUDENT DEVELOPMENT ADVANCEMENT AWARD
To honor individuals who have contributed outstanding service to the advancement of Student Development.

DR. DEBRA J. HAY DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
To recognize a student affairs practitioner who is considered exceptionally effective and active in the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) Student Development Commission.

FACULTY CONNECTION AWARD
To honor a Florida College System faculty member who has contributed to the work of student development activities on his or her campus.
