BIOGRAPHY Tracy Payne earned her doctorate from Vanderbilt University in Teaching, Learning, and Diversity with a specialization from the Experimental Education Research and Training Program sponsored by the Institute of Education Sciences. Her area of expertise is children’s math development and she is passionate about helping teachers of young children engage in math activity that builds a strong foundation for mathematical thinking and reasoning. She is a Head Start Scholar having been awarded a two-year research grant from the Administration for Children and Families to implement her own mathematics intervention in Head Start classrooms. For this research, she was awarded the Most Outstanding Research Award from the Early Childhood Education Division of the American Educational Research Association. She has taught in teacher education programs at both Peabody College at Vanderbilt and at the University of Central Florida and has won awards from Tennessee State University, NASA-SECME and The Congressional Black Caucus for leadership in STEM programs targeting K-12 students and teachers in Title I schools.

All of the practices emphasized align with developmentally appropriate learning goals for young children and district-approved curricula.
