Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood was elected Sheriff of Volusia County in August 2016 and sworn in January 2017. Prior to his election, Chitwood served for ten years as the Daytona Beach Police Chief. He became Police Chief for Shawnee, Oklahoma (2005-2006) after serving close to 17 years in the Philadelphia Police Department.
While at the Philadelphia Police Department Chitwood worked in the patrol, tactical, narcotics and detective divisions, rose to the rank of Lieutenant and was the recipient of 58 official commendations for valor, bravery, heroism and merit.

Dr. Rebecca Bolante
is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a Certified Threat Manager. After serving 15 years at Chemeketa Community College as the Director of the Threat and Disaster Resource Center, Bolante had the vision to start Bolante.Net, a network of experts providing training in the areas of threat assessment and disaster response.
A convening authority and leader in the areas of threat management, Bolante is on the Education Research Steering Committee for the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals and serves as the secretary for ASIS International School Safety & Security Council. Well-renown and respected, Bolante has been published in peer-reviewed journals of the American Psychological Association and the American Counseling Association. Bolante’s doctoral research was in threat assessment practices in institutions of higher education. Her work has included the development of standardized processes for providing support and disaster behavioral health responses following a disaster.
An active Psychological First Aid Trainer, Bolante and her team of experts are passionate about providing the training and consulting for organizations and businesses to have a threat management plan in place on how to prevent, react and respond to a crisis – whether natural or instigated.

Disaster Behavioral Health: Post-Disaster Resources for the Emotional Support and Recovery

From school shootings to hurricanes, the last several years have highlighted the need for behavioral health support and resources. Too often after a natural or human caused disaster, it’s common for individuals and communities to experience distress and anxiety about their safety and health and to worry if they will ever recover. Many people don’t know where to look for assistance on how to provide emotional support.
The Disaster Behavioral Health: Post-Disaster Resources for Emotional Support and Recovery session provides survivors and responders the essential elements to know how to facilitate resiliency and recovery in their community.
Attendees will be provided an overview of interventions including Psychological First Aid and other essential tools for establishing support rooms for post-disaster emotional support
