Welcome From the 2024 Learning Resource Commission Chair
Welcome to a transformative 2024 at the Learning Resources Commission of the Association of Florida Colleges! As your new Chair, I am thrilled to welcome you into a year brimming with potential and growth. Echoing our esteemed AFC President Matt Wetzel's inspiring message, this year we embrace the ethos of "Be Active, Keep Moving, and Transform our Minds," a mantra that perfectly aligns with our mission to enhance and support learning resources across the Florida College System. Our commission is poised to actively engage in initiatives that foster professional development, encourage collaborative participation, and advocate for the interests of our members and those we serve.
MISSION
The Learning Resources Commission's (LRC) mission of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC) is to represent and support the interests of Learning Resources personnel and the communities they serve across the Florida College System. It aims to foster participation and professional development in all aspects of learning resources, enhancing the effectiveness and reach of library and learning resource centers within the state. Through advocacy, the commission seeks to ensure that these resources are recognized as vital components of the educational ecosystem, contributing significantly to the academic and professional success of students and faculty alike.
WHO WE ARE
We are a dedicated group of professionals from the Florida College System Libraries and Learning Resource Centers, united under the Learning Resources Commission of the Association of Florida Colleges. Our membership is composed of duly elected representatives who are committed to advancing the mission of learning resources within the state. As members of the AFC, we collaborate to share best practices, develop professional skills, and advocate for the interests of our learning communities. Our officers, elected from among our ranks, lead us in these efforts, ensuring that we operate with a clear direction and purpose.
WHAT WE DO
What we do encompasses a broad range of activities designed to support and enhance learning resources across the Florida College System. We organize annual meetings and participate in the AFC conference to discuss key issues, share insights, and develop strategies for advancing our mission. Through our steering and ad hoc committees, we address specific challenges, propose resolutions, and work on initiatives that promote professional development and advocacy for learning resources. Our officers, including the Chair, Chair-Elect, Secretary/Treasurer, and Historian, play pivotal roles in guiding our commission, organizing events, maintaining records, and communicating with our membership. Together, we strive to ensure that learning resources are effectively utilized and recognized for their critical role in education.
